Our Guides

The Sturtevants Mountain Outfitters team includes veteran fishermen (& women) who share an expertise in angling. While the common bond is a passion for fishing, our guides are interesting people - with backgrounds in; conservation, firefighting, finish carpentry, information technologies, ski-racing, outdoor photography, public accounting, youth counseling, whitewater instruction, law, and wilderness medicine. Our goal is to ensure you have a uniquely enjoyable and memorable day with your Mountain Outfitters guide. It's about the fishing... and more.

Rick Ambrosi Morgan Buckert
(Morgan and Brown Drakes)
Jim Carkonen
Senior Guide
Director of our all-ladies fly-fishing school, ‘Fly Girls,’ Morgan is a standout guide in a male dominated occupation. Morgan followed her love for fly-fishing to Idaho where she has been fishing and guiding the local waters for over 5 years. Devoted to the health of our fisheries, Morgan has a Masters degree in Environmental History and has also ‘worked for the fish’ at The Silver Creek Nature Conservancy and Wood River Land Trust gaining insightful knowledge of our areas resources and obstacles. Jim hooked his first trout on a bamboo fly rod (a 6" brook) on an alpine lake forty years ago and has been seriously hooked on fly-fishing ever since. His freshwater and saltwater fly-fishing skills and knowledge have advanced over the years, but remains a distant second to his pure passion for it. ‘Among my greatest joys include watching people totally unravel from the stress in their lives and seeing the expression on the face of a person I have guided into their very first trout’. Jim has been fishing the area since 1982.
Carl Evenson
(Lead Guide)
Olin Glenne
(Guide and Guide Coordinator)
Paddy McIlvoy
(Guide and Ambassador of Fun)
Whether you are an expert angler looking to challenge the wary trout of Silver Creek or holding a fly-rod for the first time you are in world class guiding and instructional hands with Carl. A degree in wildlife biology with an emphasis in fisheries, experience in fish conservation, over 35 years of fly-fishing and fly-tying experience, Carl guides year round for trout and Steelhead in Southern Idaho and Taimen in Outer Mongolia. Carl also teaches Sturtevants ‘Bug’s and Brew’s’ classes in basic insect identification and the role it plays in fly selection. Olin is the primary contact for booking your guided trip and matching you up with the right Sturtevants Mountain Outfitter Guide. He can also help you customize a trip or help coordinate large fishing groups. Although he must hold down the shop (and guides), Olin is also an excellent guide and particularly enjoys guiding our freestone streams such as The Big Wood, The Upper Big Lost and its tributaries. Paddy is as passionate a fisherman as you will find. His exploratory nature brings him to the least traveled corners of all the area’s fisheries. But, it is the big brown trout of Silver Creek that hold the most special place in his heart (and camera). A true professional, Paddy holds a degree in Outdoor Adventure Education. A guided day of fly-fishing with Paddy is a unique and educational experience one will not forget.
